Before surgery — Buried Suture Removal
Buried Suture Removal procedure in progress

This is Gangnam Seoyon Plastic Surgery, a clinic where you can see the removed sutures for yourself.

At Gangnam Seoyon, we photograph the removal and show you the extracted sutures in person.

First, what is "buried-suture removal"?

Among those who had surgery with the buried-suture (non-incision) method, some may have a pulling sensation in the eye or dislike their double-eyelid line.

In such cases, this is a procedure that helps the eye return at least somewhat closer to how it was before, by removing the sutures.

One thing to note here is that buried-suture removal is a surgery to remove the sutures, not a surgery to undo the double eyelid~

If not much time has passed since the buried-suture surgery, removing the sutures can sometimes undo the double eyelid.

However, please note that if adhesion has already formed, the double eyelid will not come undone.

You may be curious about how the surgery is done.

At Gangnam Seoyon, we make an opening at the existing incision point to remove the sutures.

Here, removing the sutures without damaging the tissue is the most important thing.

At Gangnam Seoyon, a board-certified plastic surgeon with 20 years of experience performs the operation, so it can be done safely.

So, shall we look at which cases allow buried-suture removal?

First, buried-suture removal is only possible for cases done with the single-knot continuous method.

For the multi-knot method, suture removal is difficult.

Also, if dissolvable sutures were used, they must be removed within about 1 to 2 weeks.

Once this window has passed, suture removal is difficult.

For those who do not qualify for suture-removal surgery but are unhappy with their current eyes, we recommend changing the double-eyelid line with an incision method.

Some people may want to have revision surgery again after buried-suture removal.

Depending on the condition of the eye, revision surgery may be possible right away, or it may require waiting 6 months.

The exact answer can only be known after an in-person examination.

You are probably also curious about bruising and swelling after surgery.

It varies from person to person, but swelling largely subsides in about a week, and bruising fully clears in about one to two weeks.

The video below captures an actual buried-suture removal procedure.
