we've prepared a post gathering and answering the questions we're most often asked about buried suture removal.

In most cases the double eyelid comes undone, but there are also cases where it does not.
Because buried suture removal is a surgery to remove the sutures, not a surgery to undo the double eyelid,
removing the sutures does not necessarily mean the double eyelid will come undone,
and the double eyelid may come undone, only one side may come undone, or both sides may stay in place.
For this reason, it is a surgery that can result in asymmetry.
If you want to remove the buried sutures after buried-suture (non-incision) double eyelid surgery, it is best to remove them as soon as possible, before further adhesion forms.
The sooner the sutures are removed, the better.
It is usually performed under local anesthesia.
The surgery finishes quickly.
It usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Swelling after buried suture removal varies from patient to patient, but major swelling usually settles within 1 to 2 weeks, and minor swelling within about a month.
Rather than swelling, there may be slight bruising, and the bruising mostly improves within 2 weeks.
After buried suture removal, faint scars form where the holes were made, but they fade over time.
The holes are about 2 to 3 mm, and up to about 3 of them may be made; the scars from the holes fade over time, but
in the early period after the suture removal surgery, they can be more visible than with a standard buried-suture method, where the scar is hidden in the double-eyelid line.
With buried suture removal, because the scar where the hole was made is not hidden in the double-eyelid line, a faint mark may be visible for about 6 months when you close your eyes. This mark can usually be covered with makeup and is not visible when your eyes are open.
After 6 months the scar is hardly visible, but those who are sensitive about scars may still find it bothersome, so it is worth considering carefully.
We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks after surgery before applying either facial or eye makeup, but since wounds heal at different rates for each patient, we recommend applying makeup only after the wound at the suture-removal site has healed.
If you had surgery with dissolvable sutures, then before those dissolvable sutures dissolve —
usually within 1 week after surgery — is the best time to do it,
and after that it can be difficult, so we more strongly recommend doing an incision instead.
Once the adhesion is released, the eye returns to a monolid (no double eyelid).
Scar ointment can be used after the sutures are removed and the wound has healed. This is usually about 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.
Once the adhesion is released after suture removal, revision surgery is of course possible.
Some people additionally ask whether they can undergo revision with the buried-suture method at the same time as the suture removal; in some cases surgery can be done right away and in others it cannot, so you can only know by visiting in person for a consultation.
