Nanofat Graft Retention Rates

Hollowing above or below the eye, especially with volume loss, is often addressed with fat grafting.

Standard fat grafting, microfat, and nanofat are all options.

Standard fat graft: clusters of fat cells, several hundred μm to several mm in size.

Microfat: roughly 400–600 μm.

Nanofat: a liquefied form in which the cell membranes are disrupted, leaving stem cells and growth factors with particles at the microscopic scale.

Those are the distinctions.

When grafting onto the upper lid, the grafted area can clump or feel palpable; we use nanofat to minimize this.

Nanofat has an almost fluid consistency, which makes it easy to contour.

We use specialized equipment for the extraction — sometimes a mesh filter, sometimes a commercial product such as the Adinizer.

This is how the graft is placed.

The fat is harvested from the thigh or abdomen and placed above the eye.
