Eye surgery revision — when can it be done?
Did you have eye surgery over the winter break?
If you are unhappy with the result, or something about it leaves you wanting, you may well be thinking about a revision.
But a revision cannot be done at just any time.
Revision surgery — you need to wait at least this long
Eye surgery revision is generally possible only after at least six months have passed.
That is because accurate correction requires the surgical site to be completely healed and the tissue to have settled.
A revision performed too early actually raises the risk of scarring and complications.
However, the cases below may exceptionally require prompt treatment.
A suture is protruding, or inflammation has developed
The asymmetry is noticeably severe
The eye does not close completely
If you have any of these symptoms, visit the clinic where you had surgery right away.
Things you must check before a revision
✔ Whether the swelling has completely subsided (at least 3–6 months)
✔ Whether the scar tissue has softened sufficiently
✔ Whether you are clear about the result you want
Rather than a vague "I don't like it," it is far better to come to your consultation with a clear account of exactly which parts you are unhappy with.
What if it has not yet been six months?
Even if waiting is hard, we recommend waiting out the full six months before your consultation!
That is because the shape keeps changing right up to the six-month mark!
