Today, with Dr. Choi Dong-il of Gangnam Seoyon Plastic Surgery,
we're going to look at male double-eyelid removal surgery, or monolid eye-shape correction,
and take a closer look at it.
We'll explain how the male double-eyelid removal procedure works,
and what kind of people get double-eyelid removal surgery,
along with real cases.

Deep, prominent double eyelids on a man's eyes
can be attractive too, but
these days men generally
prefer, rather than deep double eyelids,
eyes that are large but with barely visible double eyelids.
So for men who already have double eyelids,
this can become a great source of stress.
For that reason, many men wanting double-eyelid removal, or a monolid look, have been visiting us recently.
There is a way to completely remove the double eyelid, but
we do not recommend it.
Even if you want to get rid of your double eyelid,
if the double eyelid is artificially released,
excess skin is left behind and covers the pupil,
which then means a large amount of skin has to be artificially cut away.
Because that leaves a lot of visible scarring,
we do not recommend it,
since it leaves this kind of prominent scarring.
The photo above is of a patient who, after surgery at another clinic,
came to us to improve an unnatural result.
As you can see in the photo, the line is not smooth and is irregular, and the scarring remains fully visible.
So here at Gangnam Seoyon Plastic Surgery,
rather than removing the double eyelid by cutting away skin,
we roll the double-eyelid line inward and tuck it in,
performing monolid eye-shape correction in a way that makes it invisible.
Strictly speaking, Gangnam Seoyon Plastic Surgery's double-eyelid removal, or monolid eye-shape correction, surgery
is a surgery that "hides" the double eyelid.
Rather than removing the double eyelid, we create a thin line and then
roll the double eyelid and tuck it inward,
creating a thin, hidden inner fold that is not visible from the outside,
so that when the eyes are open the double eyelid is not visible
while still giving you larger eyes.
Next, for double-eyelid removal, or monolid eye-shape correction,
we'll show you before-and-after photos.
This patient has slightly sleepy-looking eyes,
with a line that is hard to tell whether it's a double eyelid or a crease.
In most cases this is not really a double eyelid but
is closer to a simple crease.
After surgery, a small double-eyelid fold was created and
rolled and tucked inward, as you can see.
This is before and after male double-eyelid removal (monolid eye-shape correction) surgery.
Here is a similar case.
Before surgery, this patient also had a line that looked partly like a crease
and partly like a double eyelid,
giving a sleepy appearance.
Here is the next case.
This patient had double-eyelid surgery at another clinic,
and, unhappy with the heavy, prominent double eyelid,
underwent double-eyelid removal revision surgery at our clinic.
The points to be careful about with male double-eyelid removal surgery are:
1. This is not a surgery to eliminate the double eyelid but to reduce it, and
if the line itself is set too low,
it can injure the muscle that closes the eye.
In that case the eye may permanently fail to close,
causing an irreversible result.
2. Also, if the existing double eyelid is not released,
a multiple-fold (double-crease) eyelid can occur, so
it is best to have the surgery performed by an experienced plastic surgery specialist.
