Reversing a Lateral Canthoplasty — A Case Study

Today's post is about reversing a lateral canthoplasty.
When a lateral canthoplasty is taken too far in pursuit of a larger eye, the red mucosa ends up exposed.

The eye may look bigger, but the result reads as off.
Pre-op view.
Her left eye (right on the photo) shows ectropion, while her right eye (left on the photo) shows red conjunctival exposure.
The repair: excise the scar tissue cleanly, return the splayed lateral canthal tendon to its proper position, and close in a clean line.

Easier said than done — this is a procedure that takes real experience.
Post-op view. The mucosa is now properly covered and the result looks clean.
